Outdoor adventures on Guernsey: kayaking, climbing and coasteering

Whether it’s kayaking along the south coast of Guernsey, exploring Herm’s beautiful sandy beaches or climbing Sark’s breathtaking coastline, the Bailiwick of Guernsey can provide an adrenaline-fueled adventure holiday for all types of outdoor enthusiasts.

Five years ago Outdoor Guernsey was established by Antony Ford Parker to offer visitors and locals alike the chance to experience Guernsey’s beautiful coast in the best way possible: ‘It is such a spectacular environment that I really wanted people to see it,’ he explains. ‘We bought a few kayaks and started taking people out on trips and were really surprised by the level of interest.‘

Antony’s team of qualified instructors take adventurers around the Islands on exhilarating activities including kayaking, coasteering, climbing and abseiling, and archery.

In the past five years Guernsey has seen an increase in outdoor enthusiasts exploring the Islands; it’s now a familiar sight to see groups of kayakers paddling around coastal bays and coves: ‘We went from seeing nobody on the water to having hundreds of people kayaking every week,’ Antony explains. ‘Kayaking offers a unique way of exploring the coast and bays around Guernsey. The cliffs in both Guernsey and Sark also offer fantastic climbing and abseiling opportunities, and provide some of the best coasteering in Great Britain.’

From families and youth groups, to team building events and hen parties; Outdoor Guernsey has activities suitable for all levels of ability – from beginners to experienced adrenaline junkies!

The rugged coastline around Petit Bot Bay and Le Gouffre is a particularly perfect location for coasteering, while Antony’s favourite route to kayak is from Fermain Bay to Havelet in St Peter Port: ‘It has amazing views,’ he explains. ‘Out towards Herm and Sark on one side and the cliffs on the other. But whatever the weather, there is always a sheltered place to go!’
