Guernsey Festival of Performing Arts: getting ready to rock!

This summer thousands of people will descend on the fields around The Bowl in St Peter Port for the Guernsey Festival of Performing Arts, and with performances from some of the biggest music stars in the UK and beyond, the festival is sure to put Guernsey on the music map!

Twin organisers, L-R: Paul and Jon

Finding the perfect venue persuaded twin brothers Paul and Jon Stephen, 38, to tackle the huge task of organising a two-day music festival – and they can’t believe Guernsey’s own answer to Glastonbury is now just weeks away.

Almost 100 artists will perform across five stages on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July – and the varried line-up of old greats, new stars and number one artists guarantees there will be something for everyone: from rock and punk fans to folk and soul devotees.

‘Without a doubt the highlight of the festival will be Sunday’s headline act Primal Scream who will be closing the night with their iconic masterpiece Screamadelica,’ said Paul. Primal Scream are festival regulars, having headlined V Festival, Glastonbury, T in the Park, and now Guernsey!

Other acts include Saturday’s headliners Britpop stars Ocean Colour Scene, punk and folk singer Frank Turner, one of the hottest imports from the USA The Gaslight Anthem and a special appearance from Elvis Presley’s original backing singers, The Sweet Inspirations.

‘We believe that we have created a line-up that will suit all ages and we hope that the Guernsey public will enjoy what should be a fantastic weekend of music and arts,’ said Paul.

Ocean Colour Scene will round off Saturday's entertainment

While both brothers have previously organised local events, nothing has been on this scale – and they said it had not been without its challenges! Once the line-up was secured, Paul and Jon had to ensure they had everything covered – from the vast big top tent, which houses the main stage and will arrive fresh [and cleaned of mud] from Glastonbury the week before, right down to toilets for the thousands of people.

‘We have the help and services of many professional companies whose knowledge of UK festivals has been invaluable,’ said Paul.

Tickets are available online and from HMV Guernsey and Jersey stores. For more information on the line-up, venue and how to get to Guernsey visit the Festival website.
